INDIVIDUAL INITIATIVE (I2)
I2 is the taking of action in furtherance of an Organization’s Articulated Purpose without specific instructions.
The Leaders of an Organization that wishes to be a Lizard (consistently Effective) rather than a Leech (living by feeding off of others) must inculcate an ethos of I2 within its Membership.
I2 requires three actions by Leaders:
First, the Leaders must ensure that the Members clearly understand the Mission. Members cannot act independently in furtherance of the Mission if they do not know what it is. They need to know the What.
Second, Leaders must teach Members everything they know how to do. F3 calls this PHT (Positive Habit Transfer). Even if a Member knows the What he cannot act in furtherance of it unless he knows How.
Third, Leaders must consistently reward I2 regardless of the outcome. If a Member fears that Failure will be punished, he will not take action even if he knows What must be done and How to do it. This requires tremendous discipline on the part of the Leaders. They must consistently take the long view that the building of I2 is far more important than short term success.
When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.
You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.
“So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets
“Conflict can destroy a team which hasn’t spent time learning to deal with it.”
“It isn’t that they can’t see the solution. It is that they can’t see the problem.”

“Don’t ever take a fence down until you know why it was put up.”
ALONG TIME AGO THERE WAS A GREAT SHAH. HE ORDERED TO BUILD A BEAUTIFUL PALACE WHICH HAD MANY WONDERFUL THINGS IN IT. AMONG OTHER CURIOSITIES IN THE PALACE THERE WAS A HALL, WHERE ALL THE WALLS, THE SEALING, THE DOOR AND EVEN THE FLOOR WERE MADE OF MIRROR. THE MIRRORS WERE SO CLEAR AND SMOOTH THAT VISITORS DIDN’T UNDERSTAND AT ONCE THAT THERE WAS A MIRROR IN FRONT OF THEM – SO ACCURATELY THE MIRRORS WOULD REFLECT THE OBJECTS. MOREOVER, THE WALLS OF THIS HALL WERE MADE IN A WAY THAT THEY CREATED AN EXTRAORDINARY INCREASED ECHO.
ONCE, A DOG RAN INTO THE HALL AND FROZE IN SURPRISE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HALL, A WHOLE PACK OF DOGS SURROUNDED IT FROM ALL SIDES, FROM ABOVE AND BELOW. JUST IN CASE, THE DOG BARED HIS TEETH – AND ALL THE REFLECTIONS RESPONDED TO IT IN THE SAME WAY. FRIGHTENED, THE DOG FRANTICALLY BARKED – THE ECHO IMITATED THE BARK AND INCREASED IT MANY TIMES. THE DOG BARKED EVEN HARDER – AND THE ECHO WAS KEEPING UP. THE DOG TOSSED FROM ONE SIDE TO ANOTHER, BITING THE AIR- HIS REFLECTIONS ALSO TOSSED AROUND SNAPPING THEIR TEETH.
IN THE MORNING, THE GUARDS FOUND THE MISERABLE DOG, LIFELESS AND SURROUNDED BY A MILLION REFLECTIONS OF LIFELESS DOGS. THERE WAS NOBODY, WHO WOULD MAKE ANY HARM TO THE DOG. THE DOG DIED BY FIGHTING WITH HIS OWN REFLECTIONS.
THE WORLD DOESN’T BRING GOOD OR EVIL ON ITS OWN. EVERYTHING THAT IS HAPPENING AROUND US IS THE REFLECTION OF OUR OWN THOUGHTS, FEELINGS, WISHES AND ACTIONS. THE WORLD IS A BIG MIRROR
